State board meetings are open to one and all.The summer 2014 Kansas Authors Club State Board Meeting will be held Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 10:45 a.m. till 2:30 p.m. at the Perkins Family Restaurant at 1211 East Kansas Avenue in McPherson, Kansas.
The August District 5 Kansas Authors Club meeting topic is: “How important are your characters in whatever you write?” Katherine Pritchett and Louse Pelzl (aka Z. Minor) will be our speakers.
Do you read a book for the plot or because, once introduced to book characters, you want to know what happens to them? This will determine the type of book/poem you will write. We will discuss the following: 1. Type of characters 2. Creating characters 3. How to reveal complex characters 4. Goal. Motivation and conflict for characters. Bring your questions, characters and other writing questions. There will be a general discussion following the presentation. District 5 meets on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014 at the Rockford Library in Wichita from 2:00-4:00 p. m.The meeting is open to the public free of charge. We hope to see you there. During the District 5 July meeting, Ray "Grizzly" Racobs will discuss the First KAC Writing Contest District 5 is going to be having. Come to the meeting to learn the following:
Louise Pelzl will lead a discussion about judging a contest. How important is it? If time permits we will have a general discuss of writing questions. The meeting will take place Saturday, July 12, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Rockwell Library, 5930 E. 9th St., Wichita. District meetings are open to KAC members and the public without charge. Roy Beckemeyer, President of KAC District 5 and Vice President of KAC, has had his first book of poetry, "Music I Once Could Dance To," released by Coal City Review and Press of Lawrence, KS. Roy will read from the book as part of the Literary Crawl at the Independence, KS Astra Arts Festival on July 7th, 2014; the Literary Crawl runs from 6:00-8:00 pm and begins and ends at Turbos Sports Bar and Grill, 103 N. Main, Independence, KS 67301. He will be reading from 6:10-6:20 pm and again from 7:10-7:20 pm at the Independence Pharmacy, 205 N. Penn Ave., Independence, KS. He will read from and sign copies of the book at events in Wichita and Lawrence in July. In Lawrence (The Raven Book Store, July 29th, 2014, 7:00 pm), he will join Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg who will read from her new memoir of her time as Kansas Poet Laureate, "Poem on the Range," also a Coal City book. On 31 July, 2014 he will be at Watermark Books and Cafe in Wichita (6:00 pm) at a joint signing event with another Wichita poet, Michael Poage. |
