April 2017 - District 5 Board Minutes
Dear KAC District 5 Members,
Here's a summary of March's District 5 Board meeting.
Minutes March 11, 2017
The KAC Board met ahead of the regular meeting to discuss some plans for the Evening of Poetry and Music, to be held at the Fish Haus, 524 Commerce, Wichita, on April 11, 2017. Members present were Diane Wahto, Roy Beckemeyer, Connie White, Conrad Jessmore, and Gretchen Eick. Cindi Kerr and Ray (Griz) Racobs were unable to be present.
The discussion was whether we wanted to offer the poetry readers compensation. The Fish Haus has promised $175 plus the tip jar to the two professional musicians (a percussionist and cellist) for that evening. After discussion, it was unanimously decided that KAC would not offer remuneration to the readers. Historically, for a KAC-sponsored event, member readers have not been compensated. Also, it was felt that District 5 could not continue compensations to readers in the future, especially as we will be sponsoring the State Convention in 2019, and need to be conserving our funds for that event.
In further discussion, Roy advised that he is working on getting advertising of our meetings in local print media. He is trying to contact the Community Voice, which is aimed at the African American community, to try to attract potential members of that group, especially since several have recently attended our meetings.
Connie White, Secretary
