April 2017 - District 5 Board Minutes
Dear KAC District 5 Members,
Here's a summary of June's District 5 Board meeting.
Minutes June 10, 2017
The meeting was called to order at 12:30 PM by Diane Wahto, President.
Cindi Kerr queried Board members for ideas to keep the online blog up to date with consideration for future space restrictions. After discussion, we decided that Cindi will archive items of the most recent two years on the blog site itself. She will archive events two years past and earlier to a thumb drive or similar for future reference if needed.
There was further discussion about the position of Youth Liaison and the purpose of that position. Vasyma Chaparala has not responded to e-mails from Diane regarding her activities, though she has come to a recent meeting. We discussed that possibly teens are simply too busy with other activities to manage the position, or that they are not clear as to “job description” (and frankly, neither is the Board). We would like to use the youth liaison for input as to how best to attract youth to the club for their growth in writing and for us as well. After discussion, we are to e-mail suggestions to Roy. He will then present our input to the State Board at their meeting in Cherryvale, Kansas on August 5. Meanwhile, Diane will try to telephone Vasyma. It is possible that e-mails are not received because they wind up in junk mail, etc.
Cindi suggested that we use the April 2018 meeting to train people on the use of Submittables.com for State Contest, as it really is too late to do it this year. Submissions are down, and it may be because people are uncertain of how to use the site.
After discussing how to advertise, we will suggest to the membership that they use their social media sites to invite people to meetings.
Treasurer’s report: On hand currently: $7,074.23.
Diane urged us each to submit at least one name for Award of Merit for service to District 5. Instructions for that are on page 15 of the 2017 State Yearbook. Deadline is July 1, 2017.
The Board meeting adjourned at 1:15 PM.
Connie White, Secretary
