Arlice Davenport, retired Wichita Eagle Book Page Editor and District 5 member, will be talking about William Wordsworth, the Poetic Imagination and Nature at the Aug. 10 KAC District 5 meeting.
Here is his bio:
"I was 17 in a high school English class, when we read “In Just-” by E. E. Cummings. I was amazed at how words could bounce and skip and zing across the page, how you could twist and turn spacing, punctuation and syntax to make a meaning that was intentional, straight from the heart. I knew that was what I wanted to do with language, too, and I’ve been writing poetry ever since – although my poetic forms and sensibilities have matured past a 17-year-old’s awe. Still, that awe sticks with me. And I’ve never signed my name in upper-case letters since.
