Kansas Authors Club members won several awards in the 2016 Kansas Voices Writing Contest for both poetry and fiction.
Roy Beckemeyer, President of KAC and Publicity Chair of District 5, won several awards in the 2016 Kansas Voices Writing Contest. His poem, "Staying Warm," won 1st place in the Adult Free Verse category. And his poem "Cerebellum's Fire," won 1st place in the Adult Traditional Poetry category as well as the overall 2016 Kansas Voices Poetry Award. The awards included cash prizes that totaled $400.
He said "I have been entering the Kansas Voices contest for the past several years, and had never received an award before. This speaks, I would say, to the need for perseverance in your writing. Keep trying, keep on submitting. I am very happy to have won this year, but believe me, also quite humbled. I encourage everyone to enter Kansas Voices in 2017, which will be the 28th year of the contest."
Grace Becker of D5 won 1st place and an Honorable Mention in a Short Story Fiction, and Diane Wahto of D5 won two Honorable Mentions in Traditional Poetry and one in a Free Verse.
KAC members Tyler Sheldon (Emporia) won an Honorable Mention in poetry and Annable Corrick (Topeka) won 1st place in Mystery and an Honorable Mention in Adult Writing for Youth.
