Have you ever run up against a wall during your writing process? Can’t find the information you need to infuse your manuscript with authentic setting details? What can be done to propel your writing into the last lap of the marathon? By special request, D5 member Ann Fell will share highlights of her March adventure in Cuba, showing the best of her photos from the trip. Billed as an educational tour, the eight days spent crossing the island nation yielded a wealth of information she will use to add authenticity to her work-in-progress, Sonata of Elsie Lenore, a sequel to her award-winning Sundrop Sonata. Featuring Cuban pianists, Elsie Lenore presented challenges that required on-site research.
At the D5 May meeting, visit Cuba with Ann in a pictorial tour, enjoy a bit of Cuban hospitality, and learn about her “Writerly Research in Cuba: What Was She Seeking and What Did She Find?”
Ann Fell has been writing since grade school. A life-long Kansan, she enjoyed a variety of work experiences through the years—science teacher, piano teacher, handbell choir director, photographer and freelance writer. She is a registered piano technician as well as author of two J. Donald and Bertha Coffin Memorial award winning books, In the Shadow of the Wind (2015), and Sundrop Sonata (2016). Active on the D5 convention committee, she spearheaded the effort to line up a fantastic faculty for the October event in Wichita.
She blogs at annchristinefell.com, contributes human interest stories to The Piano Technicians Journal, and is busy polishing her second suspense novel. When she is not writing, she enjoys playing her piano, hammering on a dulcimer, wandering the prairie in her front yard, and spending time with grandchildren.
