Attention KAC D5 members:
In case you’ve been wondering, we have been putting together this year’s Epistrophy 2020 event, along with the Wichita Public Library, and hope that circumstances (meaning a certain bug) allow us to produce it again this year. We will be posting a call for submissions, with guidelines, and the email address to send the submissions, towards the end of June. The submission period will be July 1st through July 31st. Any KAC D5 member is invited, and encouraged, to submit poetry (number of poems will be specified when the call is posted; time limit per poem will be no more than 4 minutes per poem, max, possibly 3, so think short!) when the submission period opens. Here are the details for this year’s event:
Epistrophy 2020
Presented by Kansas Authors Club, District Five and the venue host, Wichita Public Library Advanced Learning Library, Conference Center.
Saturday, October 17th, 2020, 12:00-4:00 PM
This year’s two accompanying musicians are:
Randy Zellers, electric guitar
Seth Carrithers, acoustic bass
You may remember Randy from Epistrophy last year, and Seth from the Rhythm-A-Ning event at last year’s convention. They should do a great job improvising to the poems.
Billy’s Bounce will also be back, this time as a quartet.
So far, we have 5 featured poets lined up, and we expect to have a total of 8-9; the remainder will be made up, as always, by D5 poets who have gone through the juried submission process.
A partnership grant request has been submitted to the Wichita Arts Council, who funded part of last year’s event, but we have yet to hear back from them. We expect fundraising to be more difficult this year, as our usual donors---book & music stores---went through a two-month period of closure. However, we will get it done. Any suggestions for possible donors other than the usual suspects are appreciated. You may contact Bob Dean at the email address below if something occurs to you.
So, be thinking about what you might want to submit this year, and look for the call to be posted the end of this month. Again, this is for current D5 members only.
If coronavirus is still an issue in October, it will be up to the library to decide how to handle things, since they are the venue partner.
Thank you,
Bob Dean
