Dear KAC District 5 Members,
Here's a summary of September's District 5 meeting.
Minutes September 8, 2018
The meeting was called to order at 1:30 by Diane Wahto, who mentioned that the minutes of the August meeting are posted on the blog. Again, members are urged to look to the blog for the latest news and announcements.
Treasurer’s Report: Balance on hand is $7,070.50
Note that as of today, the 2018 State Convention Schedule is posted on the KAC State Website.
Bob Dean announced that on Sunday, October 21, at the new Wichita City Library, there would be an Epistrophe event – poetry reading accompanied by music. They are seeking volunteers to monitor the book table and one or possibly two volunteers who can help with a simple soundboard for times when those working the soundboard are occupied with their own performances. If you can help with either of these issues, please contact Bob Dean,
After brief introductions around, our speaker was Tracy Edingfield Dunn, author of historical fiction and middle-grade fiction, and a former attorney. Mrs. Dunn presented us with an “Emotion Color Wheel” containing one hundred emotionally descriptive words and worked with us to use more “colorfully” specific terms when describing emotions in our writing. We followed with a brief writing exercise and share-around, and much laughter. She said that emotionally intelligent people have a robust emotional vocabulary. They also have the ability to master their emotions. They are curious about people. They have the ability to let go of mistakes, and they don’t let others dilute their joy.
The meeting adjourned at 3:30. Don’t forget the State Convention in Salina October 5-7, and our next District 5 meeting will be at Larksfield Place on October 13, 2018 at 1:30 PM.
Connie White, Secretary
