Dear KAC District 5 Members,
Here's a summary of February's District 5 meeting.
Minutes February 10, 2018
The meeting was called to order by Diane Wahto. The day was extremely cold and blustery, and because of the current flu epidemic and other illness, there were only twenty members in attendance today.
Dan Close and Ann Fell spoke briefly on State Contest entry requirements and encouraged members to enter contests this year. Dan is judging prose entries an Ann is judging poetry. Last year, District 5 presented few contest entries, and we are encouraged to begin thinking now about possible entries. Watch the State Blog for contest rules which will be appearing soon. Dan noted that we need not be shy about entering. The judges see only the actual work submitted, and know nothing about the name or district of the submission until the awards are decided. Submissions have to be previously unpublished whether print or digitally. The only exception is that an entry previously awarded honorable mention may be resubmitted. Watch the state website for categories (which actually will be the same as last year.)
Treasury report: $7,253.09, after deducting for the gift to Roy Beckemeyer last month and also a
Diane noted that the Board voted at the last meeting to pay a speaker fee for local club members as well, and they may choose (or not) to donate that fee back to the club.
Dan presented the program: a Dove Writing Challenge. He passed out Dove chocolates and within each wrapper was a writing prompt. After a 10-minute writing period, we did a share around of our results. Taylor Stucky won the contest by popular acclaim with thanks to his presentation style.
Our next meeting will be March 10, 2018 in the Larksfield meeting room off the dining room as usual, from 1:00 – 3:30 PM. Again, there will be a Pre-Convention planning session from 12:00 noon until 1:00 and we encourage all members to become involved in the planning and execution of the 2019 State Convention.
