Diane Wahto introduced Joyce Markley and Dr. Phil Speary, who discussed Writing for the Stage. Joyce discussed how writing for the stage is a collaboration between the writer, the actors, the director, and the audience. She stated that she believes everyone has a story in them and even young children write and stage plays. Phil spoke about how a play isn't complete until it is "performed by human beings in front of an audience." Dr. Speary then explained the 6 elements of theater: plot, character, theme, diction, music, and spectacle.
There are 10 theaters in Wichita that operate throughout the year. A good place to get information on readings, actors, directors, performances and other theater news is the Wichita Theater Page on FaceBook.
The meeting was enjoyable and informative.
October's meeting will cover what NaNoWriMo is and how to prepare for it.
