NOVEMBER 2015 - District 5 Meeting Minutes
Dear KAC District 5 Members,
Here's a summary of November's meeting for your reading pleasure.
We had a larger number in attendance at the November meeting (approximately 25, though I didn’t count) to hear Ronda Miller speak. Ronda has had numerous tragedies in her own life, and spoke about coming through trauma and being able to write about it from a positive aspect. As a result of her own tragedies, Ronda has become a grief counselor and a “life counselor” for others coming out of similar experiences.
Roy Beckemeyer encouraged those who might be interested in a contest called NaNoWriMo–(National Novel Writing Month) a challenge to write a 50,000-word novel between November 1 and November 30. Of course by the time you read this, November is nearly over, but I highly recommend that you look up nanowrimo.org on the internet and consider this for 2016.
Roy also mentioned an author, Brian Doerres, who has translated classic Greek tragedies in a book “Theater of War”, and subsequently another, recently reviewed by Arlis Davenport in the Wichita Eagle, called “All That You’ve Seen Here Is God”. These modern adaptations have been performed for various wounded warrior groups and veteran’s groups around the country and have been quite helpful to those
with PTSD, and are recommended by Roy for an interesting read.
New Officers for District 5 for 2016 are:
President : Ray “Grizzly” Racobs
Vice President: Diana Wahto
