March 2016 - District 5 Meeting Minutes
Dear KAC District 5 Members,
Here's a summary of March's District 5 meeting.
Minutes March12, 2016
Our speaker was Annette Wood, whose younger sister Jane developed autism after an early childhood illness. Annette had copies of her book available, A Different Kind of Kin, about her struggles as a sibling of a person on the autism spectrum. She also told of her family trying to cope with all of the challenges, and of the pain of “survivor guilt” and of multiple losses connected with the situation. I would encourage everyone to visit Annette’s website: www.woodwriter.com, and to get a copy of her book if you know anyone battling autism. She includes an excellent list of resources for those interested in knowing more.
Annette Wood was born in 1949. She became interested in reading and writing at an early age, partially to escape the tension in a home in constant turmoil with her disabled sibling. She could enter into the stories she read as a means of escape, and at the age of eight or nine, “wrote alternate endings for books she didn’t like”. She has written for the journal, Small Business Opportunities, and for Kansas Magazine. She is an Indie writer, publishing family memoirs. Annette says that she does most of her
own writing in longhand initially, and then transfers to the computer. She recommends using a different folder for each chapter, as well as for research articles.
Current Treasury repot: Total in the account is $7,420.24.
