February 2016 - District 5 Meeting Minutes
Dear KAC District 5 Members,
Here's a summary of February's meeting.
Minutes February 13, 2016
Our meeting room is the Lakeview Dining Room at Larksfield Place, 7373 E. 29th St. North. The
meeting was called to order at 2 PM by Ray “Griz” Racobs, and a short business meeting was
held.
Roy Beckemeyer presented a trifold brochure advertising the club, which also contains a “New
Member” form to be filled out and mailed to the state KAC membership secretary. He also
presented bookmarks “Stop Hiding In Your Locker” to help advertise and attract students for
membership. Roy had multiple copies made, enough to get us started contacting schools,
teachers, and students to advertise and invite them to the meetings. The bookmarks also give
rules for entry into state writing contests.
Prem Bajaj, Treasurer reported that we have $7,237.48, which is the same as last month. It was
moved by Diane Wahto, seconded by Connie White, and confirmed by voice vote to accept the
report.
Roy Beckemeyer announced that there will be no District 5 contest this year. The State Contest
rules are not totally formulated as yet. Watch for those rules on the KAC Website. Contests will
run April 1-June 2016.
Dues are due to reach the state KAC office by March 31. Remember that contest entry fees are
discounted for members. Someone questioned whether family KAC memberships are available.
This is the plan but it has not yet been published on the state website.
Diane Wahto had the first part of the program, which involved a writing exercise, “Why I love to
write”. We were given a few minutes to write, and then enjoyed hearing what members had
written. Dan Close then passed out Dove chocolate candies which contained a writing prompt on the inside of the papers, and we were challenged to write one sentence with a valentine theme based on the prompt that our candy paper gave.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In this new dining room conference room, Griz has been notified that we
absolutely have to clear the space by 4 PM. Therefore after discussion it is determined that
future meetings will be 1:30-3:30 PM. It is suggested that we begin gathering at 1:00 PM for
“meet and greet” so the meeting can start promptly at 1:30
The meeting adjourned 3:30 PM., which made it a little shorter this month because we were not
aware of the time restraint.
