Grant Overstake to speak at the Kansas Authors’ Club’s June 10 program.
Former Miami Herald Staff Writer and Kansas newspaper editor Grant Overstake enjoyed a distinguished career as a print journalist. His premier novel, Maggie Vaults Over the Moon, received this Kirkus Review: a "fine young adult novel about perseverance in sports and in life." The audio book is narrated by award-winning voice actress, Tavia Gilbert. Grant's second novel, The Real Education of TJ Crowley, is set in the racially turbulent years of 1968-69, in Northeast Wichita where Grant grew up, and involves shot-putting, one of the most explosive events in sports. Grant consulted with many leaders in the African-American Community who grew up in Wichita that time and with historian of the civil rights movement, Dr. Gretchen Eick, in writing this novel.
