Dan Close, WSU associate professor, will present a program on Little Free Libraries for the Oct. 8, 2016, D5 KAC meeting.
Little Free Libraries — Have you ever wanted to own your own library, stock it as you please, and invite the public by to browse and borrow? Then you need to find out how to build one, select a theme, stock it, get a national license and run your own Little Free Library.
Learn how you can build up your neighborhood and community by sharing your love for the printed word. Expect lots of information, lively discussion and a great slide show.
An LFL is a “take a book, return a book” free book exchange. They are most commonly seen as decorated, themed wooden boxes, sometimes containing logbooks, bookmarks and fliers for exchanging information and reading experiences. There is an understanding that real people are sharing their favorite books with their community in a communal fashion. Little Free Libraries have been called “mini-town squares.” As of June, there were more than 40,000 registered Little Free Library book exchanges in all 50 U.S. states and more than 70 countries around the world.
Dan Close, D5, is an award-winning journalist, poet, fiction and creative non-fiction writer. He has taught at Wichita State for 26 years and has written hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles in a nearly 15 year career.
