Join us for the Kansas Authors Club District 5 monthly meeting on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at the Rockwell Branch Library in Wichita. The meeting runs from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Karen Long, writer for Splurge Magazine, will give a program, “Genre Mashups: Applying Fiction Techniques to Journalism.” Karen would like for members to bring examples of their writing to read. She also wants to hear what kind of feedback everyone is getting about trying to fit into a pre-defined genre for the sake of marketing.
aren Long won her first writing contest at age 10. However, she went on to spend 20 years as a graphic designer and art director. In 2007 she returned to her first love and founded Pink Chihuahua with a writing partner in Amsterdam, where she wrote screenplays, e-books and websites. She returned to her native Wichita in 2008, and for the last five years has been a writer and web editor for Splurge! Magazine, where she’s had the privilege to write about all things Wichita, from hot air balloons to hot shaves, from Kaleigh Glanton of the Voice to former District Attorney Nola Foulston, from The Prairie Fire Marathon to indoor football. She’s also a website copywriter and a dedicated early-morning writer — a habit she’s trying to expand to include her half-finished middle-grade novel and poetry collection.
Diane Wahto will provide treats. Coffee will be provided at the March and April meeting. Water will be provided at all meetings.
Meetings are free of charge and open to the public. Hope to see you there!
