Join us for the Kansas Authors Club District 5 monthly meeting on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at the Rockwell Branch Library in Wichita. The meeting runs from 2:00
to 4:00 p.m.
Patrick O’Connor, owner and publisher of Rowfant Press, will present the program. He will speak on “The compulsion of writing and the comparative value of being published.”
Through Rowfant Press, O’Connor has published many award-winning books, including Hunting and Trading on the Great Plains 1859-1875 by James R. Mead, First Paperback Edition, 2008, [Listed by State Library as one of the Sesquicentennial 150 Best Books about Kansas 2011; Honored by the Wichita City Council with James R. Mead Week 2011; used as text in History 505, Wichita State University 2012].
Among his academic publications are “Discovering The Rich Differences In The Blues: The Rural and Urban Genres" The Midwest Quarterly (Pittsburg State
University) Autumn, 1991 http://www.kansashistory.us/oconnorblues.html, and “Beat Personality and the Demands of Friendship: The Reunion of Charles Plymell and Allen Ginsberg” Southwest

Mr. O'Connor has been the recipient of many grants, one of the most recent being the Sound Meter Grant Program, American Motorcyclist Association 2014. His involvement in projects goes back many years. He was the archival facilitator for James R. Mead Library Collection, Washburn University, April, 2015.
In 2014, he organized the James Mechem Remembrance, hosted by Diane Wahto.
His performances are as varied as his projects. They include being the pianist for several local and are theater productions. Also, he was the guitarist on Outlaw Blues CD by Tony Moffeit, blues poet and National Endowment for the Arts creative writing fellowship winner; accompanied
Moffeit at the Poetry Rendezvous, Great Bend, 2003-04.
O’Connor belongs to the Associate Royal Photographic Society, Royal Historical Society, Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland, Poetic Genius Society, President Kansas Folklore Society, Wichita Irish Cultural Association; Directory of Writers: Poets & Writers.
He was an Artist in Residence (blues culture) in the Wichita Public Schools, in 1998-99, Educational Theater Advisory Council, Healthy Options for Planeview
[Wichita neighborhood] in 2002, a graduate of Citizens Academy, and a member of the Art and Design Board, City of Wichita, 2003-2004.
