All of us have stories worth telling. Indeed, truth can be as entertaining as fiction if we choose the right way to tell our stories. In June’s meeting, we’ll examine some of the techniques that fiction writers employ to captivate readers, and have some time to put them into practice with a story of your own. Come with writing materials and a memory or two from your own life to develop. Humorous, romantic, dramatic, suspenseful—any event that can evoke an emotional response in readers is appropriate. Participants will have an opportunity to share what they write.
Ann Fell has published human interest articles in the KANSAS! Magazine, the adoption magazine OURS, and in the Piano Technicians Journal. She has written numerous news articles over the years, most recently tackling publicity articles for Gallery 1001 in Winfield. Since 2010, she has published two books, In the Shadow of the Wind, (2014), and Sundrop Sonata (2016). Excerpts from both books have won awards in writing contests, including the Kansas Writer’s Association 2011, Rose State (Oklahoma) 2013, Kansas Voices 2015, and Kansas Author’s Club District 2 and Kansas Author’s Club state contest 2015. Her memoir, In the Shadow of the Wind, received the 2015 Donald J. Coffin award for the best new book published by a Kansas author.
She also serves as a community advisor for the creative writing students in Marlys Cervantes’ program at Cowley College.
When she is not writing, Ann tunes pianos in rural south-central Kansas and teaches private piano lessons. She is a musician, nature lover, registered piano technician, photographer, as well as a writer. She enjoys playing her piano, hammering on a dulcimer, ringing handbells,
gardening, wandering the prairie in her front yard and spending time with her grandchildren.
